Notarization

Are you required to have your signature or a document notarized? Although the office of the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Seattle doesn't perform notarization services for the public, this can be done by the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco or a US Notary Public (free service at most US banks)

If you need signature certification, the Notary Public confirms that the named individual signed the document in front of him or her. The signature must be done in person and in front of the Notary Public. The individual will not be instructed on the legal meaning of the document to be signed.

After the signature or document is notarized by a US Notary Public, an apostille is required as well for the document to have legal power in Ukraine.

Apostille is the confirmation of the authenticity of a public document and is only issued by a designated authority of the state that issued the document – the Secretary of State from where the document originates.
